Procedure:
- Introduction (5 minutes)
- Greet the students and explain the purpose of the lesson.
- Ask the students if they know what addition and subtraction are.
- Write the words "addition" and "subtraction" on the whiteboard.
- Addition demonstration (10 minutes)
- Show the students a set of addition problems written on index cards and ask them to solve each problem using the manipulatives.
- Encourage the students to explain their thinking and to use the manipulatives to visualize the addition.
- Repeat the activity several times, using different problems each time.
- Subtraction demonstration (10 minutes)
- Show the students a set of subtraction problems written on index cards and ask them to solve each problem using the manipulatives.
- Encourage the students to explain their thinking and to use the manipulatives to visualize the subtraction.

- Closing (5 minutes)
- Summarize what the students learned during the lesson.
- Encourage the students to continue practicing addition and subtraction at home.
