Objective: To teach children about shapes and their attributes.
Materials:
- A variety of 2D and 3D shapes cut out of construction paper
- Whiteboard and markers
Procedure:
- Introduction (5 minutes)
- Greet the students and explain the purpose of the lesson.
- Ask the students if they know what shapes are and what we use them for.
- Write the words "shapes" and "attributes" on the whiteboard.
- Shape sorting activity (15 minutes)
- Show the students a variety of 2D and 3D shapes and ask them to sort them into groups based on their attributes (e.g. number of sides, number of corners, etc.).
- Encourage the students to talk about the attributes of each shape as they sort them.
- Repeat the activity several times, using different sets of shapes each time.
- Shape identification (15 minutes)
- Hold up each shape and ask the students to identify it by name.
- Encourage the students to talk about the attributes of each shape as they identify it.
- Repeat the activity several times, using different sets of shapes each time.
- Closing (5 minutes)
- Summarize what the students learned during the lesson.
- Encourage the students to continue practicing shape identification and sorting at home.
- Dismiss the students and thank them for their participation.
