Objective: To teach children about rhyming words and to develop their listening and speaking skills.
Materials:
- A set of rhyming word cards (e.g. cat-hat, dog-frog, etc.)
- Whiteboard and markers
- Music (optional)
Procedure:
- Introduction (5 minutes)
- Greet the students and explain the purpose of the lesson.
- Ask the students if they know what rhyming words are.
- Write the words "rhyming words" on the whiteboard.
- Rhyming word demonstration (10 minutes)
- Show the students the set of rhyming word cards and ask them to identify the rhyming words in each pair.
- Encourage the students to repeat the words and to listen to the sounds that are the same.
- Repeat the activity several times, using different sets of rhyming word cards each time.
- Rhyming word game (15 minutes)
- Divide the students into pairs and give each pair a set of rhyming word cards.
- Explain the rules of the game: the first student says one word from a card, the second student says another word that rhymes with the first word, and so on.
- Play the game several times, allowing each pair to have a turn.
- If desired, play music during the game to add an element of fun.
- Closing (5 minutes)
- Summarize what the students learned during the lesson.
- Encourage the students to continue practicing rhyming words and to listen carefully to the sounds of words.
- Dismiss the students and thank them for their participation.
