Early Years English - Colours

Objective: To teach children about colours and to develop their vocabulary and speaking skills.

Materials:

  • Colour cards (one for each colour, e.g. red, blue, green, etc.)
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Objects of different colours (e.g. toys, crayons, etc.)

Procedure:

  1. Introduction (5 minutes)
    • Greet the students and explain the purpose of the lesson.
    • Ask the students if they know what colours are.
    • Write the word "colours" on the whiteboard.
  2. Colour recognition (10 minutes)
    • Show the students the set of colour cards and ask them to identify each colour as you hold up one card at a time.
    • Encourage the students to say the name of the colour and to listen to the sounds of the words.
    • Repeat the activity several times, using different sets of colour cards each time.
  3. Colour labelling (15 minutes)
    • Show the students the objects of different colours and ask them to label each object with the name of the colour.
    • Encourage the students to say the name of the colour and to listen to the sounds of the words as they label the objects.
    • Repeat the activity several times, using different sets of objects each time.
  4. Closing (5 minutes)
    • Summarize what the students learned during the lesson.
    • Encourage the students to continue practicing colours and to listen carefully to the sounds of words.
    • Dismiss the students and thank them for their participation.
