Human Rights


Human rights are fundamental rights and freedoms that all individuals are entitled to, regardless of their race, gender, religion, nationality, or any other status. The most widely recognized and accepted list of human rights is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), adopted by the United Nations in 1948. The UDHR includes 30 articles that outline the rights and freedoms that all individuals are entitled to, including:

  1. The right to life, liberty, and security of person (Article 3)
  2. The right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion (Article 18)
  3. The right to freedom of expression (Article 19)
  4. The right to peaceful assembly and association (Article 20)
  5. The right to participate in government (Article 21)
  6. The right to work and education (Article 23)
  7. The right to an adequate standard of living (Article 25)
  8. The right to health (Article 25)
  9. The right to social security (Article 26)
  10. The right to a fair trial (Article 10)
  11. The right to be free from discrimination (Article 2)
  12. The right to privacy (Article 12)
  13. The right to marry and found a family (Article 16)
  14. The right to own property (Article 17)
  15. The right to asylum (Article 14)
  16. The right to nationality (Article 15)
  17. The right to a fair trial (Article 10)
  18. The right to freedom from torture, cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment (Article 5)
  1. The right to freedom from slavery and forced labor (Article 4)
  2. The right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of a state (Article 13)
  3. The right to seek and enjoy asylum from persecution (Article 14)
  4. The right to a nationality and the freedom to change it (Article 15)
  5. The right to marry and found a family (Article 16)
  6. The right to own property (Article 17)
  7. The right to an adequate standard of living, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care (Article 25)
  8. The right to education (Article 26)
  9. The right to participate in the cultural life of the community (Article 27)
  10. The right to a social order that promotes the dignity and well-being of all (Article 28)
